This year’s theme, Stronger Together, reflects our shared commitment to working hand in hand across communities through service, where love triumphs over hate, peace over conflict, and unity over division—because we are truly Stronger Together. Enjoy a day filled with performances, hands-on activities, and opportunities to honor the spirit of MLK Jr. Performances 12pm – DJ Shell Spin kicks off the day and plays between performances. 12:45pm – Blind Divas 2024 Pageant Winners. 1–1:45pm – Yahaya Kamate, a West African dancer and drummer, explores the movement, rhythm, sequencing, and social-historical context of several West African dance styles, along with their connections to American dances such as Hip Hop. 2:15pm – One Step Ahead Learning Center recites I Have a Dream and a poem by Maya Angelou. 2:45pm – One Step Ahead Learning Center Choir performs. 3:30–4:15pm – Yaya Drumming Performance by Yahaya Kamate. Activities 12–4pm | Special Exhibition Gallery, 2nd Floor Create MLK Buttons. Capture a memory at our photo moment. Design accordion books. Join pillow-making sessions (40 people per session): 1pm, 2pm, 3pm. All Day | Billy Johnson Auditorium MLK Speech: “The Other America” This iconic speech will play on loop throughout the day. All Day | Welcome Center Food Drive Collection: Bring canned or dry food donations and receive a free T-shirt featuring an MLK Jr. quote. Enjoy light refreshments. Free Services Courtesy of Our Community Partners Eyes Like Mine & Lions Club: Free vision screenings. St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center: Advocating for humane treatment of animals and supporting the human-animal bond. Path for Change Counseling: Behavioral health, intellectual and developmental disability services, and substance use treatment for youth and families. Children’s Legal Services: Legal representation for unaccompanied children. Newark Water Coalition: Advocating for the liberation of natural resources and raising awareness of environmental justice issues. Diabetes Foundation: Free services and programs to help manage diabetes and promote healthy living. Important Details New Parking Information Please note, onsite parking is no longer available at the Museum. Convenient parking is available at the Edison ParkFast lot across the street on 42 Central Ave. Bring your ticket to the Welcome Center to receive a validation for a discounted rate. Museum Entry Doors open at 12pm. Please enter through the Main Entrance, accessible during construction. _
